About

Artist Statement

My work is rooted in the human condition - memory, displacement, and emotional truth. I was born in Mostar and my early life was marked by the experience of war and constant movement, which shaped my sensitivity toward people, relationships, and fragility of existence.

Painting became my way of processing memory and emotion, but also a way of preserving what is often lost in language: silence, intimacy, and inner states. I work primarily in figurative painting, using the human figure as a carrier of psychological and emotional depth rather than a literal portrait.

In recent years, my practice has focused on themes of motherhood, collective trauma, and cultural memory, as well as deeply personal explorations of sevdah, understood not only as music, but as a state of longing, tenderness, and inner strength. Through this, I try to translate invisible emotional experiences into visual form.

My paintings are not answers, but open spaces, inviting the viewer into reflection, recognition, and quiet dialogue with themselves.
